Littleton Public Schools, voter-approved, $84.5 million 2002 Bond Program consisting of 1,371 projects is completed in 2006. Over the course of four years, all school sites and support facilities underwent renovations and upgrades.

With the exception of seven building additions, all renovations were accomplished within existing building footprints. Projects included site drainage improvements, restroom renovations, asbestos abatement, heating ventilation and air conditioning and lighting upgrades, window replacements, and new flooring. Office reconfigurations designed to maximize efficiency, improve student services, and provide a welcoming atmosphere were completed at several locations. Several construction projects focused on improving and/or maintaining the structural integrity of the district’s facilities with an average age of 44 years.

Since 2002 Littleton Public Schools has replaced 610,438 sq. ft. of roofing throughout the district. Projects ranged from complete roof replacement to replacement of designated sections at nineteen different locations.

The 2002 Bond Program redefined Littleton Public Schools security system. Card access readers have been installed at designated entry doors providing detailed secure and access logs with the ability to enable or disable cards within minutes. Surveillance cameras have been installed at strategic exterior locations at every building. The cameras record activity at each site and can be monitored at each specific site and central administration. Upon project completion, the new security system will include 2,200 motion detectors, 190 cameras, and 110 access card readers district wide.

Fire alarm system upgrades include an additional 80 to 100 smoke and/or heat detectors at 11 elementary schools and 100 to 200 additional detectors at 2 middle schools. The remaining schools previously underwent fire system upgrades in phases via the capital reserve improvement process. Arapahoe and Heritage High Schools, having the largest theaters in the district, received an upgrade from a tone to voice evacuation system in those areas.

Schools that are undergoing renovations during the Summer of 2006 include Heritage and Options High Schools; Ames, Runyon, and Whitman Elementary Schools. All remaining projects are scheduled for completion in January 2007. Although we are not quite there, completion of the 2002 Bond Program is in sight.
