The PODNet (Personally-Owned Devices Network) is operational at all four high school locations and at many other schools. The decision to activate the PODNet is based on a desire to serve devices that are not provided by the district like this PDA from Hewlett Packard. Mark purchased this device and was able to synchronize with his computer and complete his link to PODNet in about 15 minutes one morning. I was delighted to see how the splash screen listing the limitations and obligations adjusted itself to the PDA screen. As the year progresses, we expect to see more and more wifi devices come to our schools. Right now, the use is sparse but under way.
Think of it like building a new community. Before anyone can build houses, schools, parks, retail and the sort, there has to be an infrastructure put in place. The same is true for a digital community. Wireless is part of the 21st Century infrastructure and just the beginning of making all LPS schools into 21st Century Learning Spaces.
