The TIE Conference will be held at Copper Mountain this summer on June 19-22, 2007.  See http://tiecolorado.org/2007/index.cfm for details.

This year, ITS will cover 20 scholarships for the registration fees of the conference and an additional 40 scholarships for 50%.  We'll look to coordinate housing to get the best prices we can which should make attendance at the conference available to those who want to go.  These scholarships don't count the ones we'll get for delivering presentations.

So, perhaps our numbers will be higher, but we'll do something else to make this year really different: We're going to "fish-bowl" this conference.

We will setup some blog threads (or perhaps a wiki) for the conference on our district site and check out wireless laptops to our attendees.  The conference is wireless so everyone will be able to sit in sessions and, instead of writing some notes on paper that only you can access, you can record your ideas for everyone!

To be clear, this approach is not my idea.  I observed Anne Smith doing this with her language arts classes when I was visting Karl Fisch.  Boni Hamilton, Randy Stall and Mike Porter are designing the protocol.  I hope we educators can use the tool as well as I observed the students [;-)

Interesting idea. Some folks will undoubtedly take right to it, but others may prefer not to do that. I wouldn't try to force the technology on folks that aren't quite ready to do that (I know you wouldn't do that, but just so everyone is clear that it's optional).

We also need a tag for the conference (and have Randy have TIE publicize it on their website). There's another TIE Conference out there, so maybe COTIE07?

I doubt that us old folks will do as well as our students, but I still think we can do a pretty good job.

Great point, Karl. Naturally there will be no forced blogging... I might coerce, but never force [;-)

What about having students model the process?

Absolutely! So, are we thinking bringing some with us? That would make three conferences I'll try to bring students to attend... or are you thinking of the training/modeling video we need? Or perhaps a meeting in LPS before the end of the year?

We should ask them what they want to do and what they are available to do. I would think having our own kids their would be great, but not all will be able to attend and it would be a challenge to get permission for them to go there for the day or so. Also, I know many could work with LHS and d the video production of blogging to show we are together on this as a district.
