| Do you have access to these tools in your school? How are you using them? Do you see advantages to either the document camera or the Smartboard? Please share your thoughts, plans, and experiences. |

| I had access to these tools at my previous district and I miss them terribly. I currently am not in a program with lots of technological abilities and it is very hard for me to go back from integrated technology in the classroom to nothing but white boards! I am hoping that I will be able to get some technology into my classroom so I can start to use the amazing tools available to impact my at risk kids. |

| No, to my knowledge, we don't have any document cameras at Newton. I can see many uses for it in the ESL classroom. One teacher has just purchased a Smartboard and is waiting to have it installed. I hope to be able to see how he uses it and learn from him. |

| Powell has two document cameras. One was just installed in a classroom. I am sure that once teachers start using it, they'll going to ask for more. It is a great tool. Thank you for the fun class yesterday. |

| I can see such great everyday use for a document camera in the art studio on the elementary level, that I have been trying for 6 months to get one!!! I took the Teaching Primary Sources class from Metro but did not win the lottery for the $1500 technology grant. Our school is delving into other options, and after taking the Monday Models class on Sept. 25 with Mike, I am even more committed to working towards attaining one. As I read the story of Frida Kahlo's life this morning to third graders and had to methodically make it around to all the students to show them the pictures, I thought, "Man, I could sure have used a document camera so all the students could see at once and make comments together about it." Then when demonstrating the drawing of a face, I thought "Wow, the kids could see this so much better if I could do the demo under the document camera or better yet, make a video on the document camera of the demo and then be able to walk around the room and see how the kids were doing drawing their own." The applications in art are endless, as we are a VISUAL core discipline and the document camera is a VISUAL tool. |

| Runyon has 2 document cameras but until last night's class I did not have the knowledge of what all they could really do for us. We are currently trying to find funding sources to get them to our teachers. After the "just in time" learning factor our teachers thought they were great. Wait until they see really what a powerful tool they can be! Smartboard software downloads are a very useful resource. Thank you so much for the class yesterday, it was fun and informative. |

| A CHEAP alternative to a document camera is a scanner. Our Math dept uses one in each classroom to quickly scan documents directly in to SMART Notebook. From there you can mark it up, print it, upload it to the web or whatever. For $80 a Canon CanoScan Lide can do a fantastic job! |

| Franklin Elementary's PTO graciously purchased a document camera for EVERY classroom this year! The exciting learning opportunities available to all kids as technology is integrated through the use of the document cameras is incredible. Kids love showing their own work such as models of their writing to the class, working with math manipulatives, and zooming in on 3-d objects during science lessons. Teachers are so thankful for this additional technology to use with their students. |
