At long last, here is a draft of Vision and Mission statements for technology and ITS in Littleton Public Schools. Your comments will help craft the final version. Please comment as this is draft. These words are page one for the Strategic Work Plan that is now ready for comment and will show up on a subsequent blog entry...

DRAFT:

ITS will facilitate world-class student learning and professional practice by:

 

DELIVERING secure, flexible, robust, and reliable systems, data resources and infrastructure;

PROVIDING responsive, professional, proactive and customer-oriented service and support;

INSPIRING innovation, resourcefulness and vision for the future;

COMMUNICATING in an open, inclusive and transparent manner;

DEVELOPING 21st Century educational services for students, staff and community.

 

  1. DELIVERING secure, flexible, robust, and reliable systems, data resources and infrastructure means:
    1. Maintaining a high bandwidth network
    2. A standardized computer fleet that can meet diverse functional needs
    3. All user interfaces will be web-enabled
    4. All data converges into a single warehouse for reporting and analysis
    5. Data will be standardized and directly accessed by those who need  information
    6. 1:1 computing for all staff and secondary level students
    7. Developmentally appropriate technology-rich learning environments for primary level students
  2. PROVIDING responsive, professional, proactive and customer-oriented service and support means:
    1. A strict adherence to the Tenets of the ITS Department
    2. Establishing technology standards that balance cost with best practices
    3. Developing quality plans and evaluation programs
    4. Increase support staffing at the building and district levels
    5. Adhering to best practices from the IT industry
  3. INSPIRING innovation, resourcefulness and vision for the future means:
    1. Seeking great practices in the classroom and the office
    2. Embracing new ideas from students, teachers, administrators, staff, parents and community
    3. Welcoming change as a natural part of our business
    4. Adopting quality standards for student and staff competencies
    5. Promoting leadership and self-sufficiency among all staff, students and the community
    6. Establishing partnerships with institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations and the private sector that increase support, enhance learning and promote readiness for the global economy
  4. COMMUNICATING in an open, inclusive and transparent manner means:
    1. No ITS decisions will be made without consultation and proper notice to affected stakeholders
    2. IT governance is tempered by advisory committee input
    3. An ITS online news service will provide participatory information on IT initiatives
    4. ITS staff communications will be consistent, professional and properly articulated with the decision-making structure of the district
    5. ITS will collect regular formative and summative performance evaluation information from stakeholders
  5. DEVELOPING 21st Century educational services for students, staff and community means:
    1. IT professional development programs will be job-centric, not technology-centric
    2. A rich array of learning experiences using modern technologies including handheld, web-based, computer assisted and other modern tools and systems to accomplish authentic work
    3. Online learning skills, information literacy, digital citizenship and technology competency will be developed among all students and staff
    4. E-learning programs extend the reach, diversity and quality of the educational service of LPS
    5. Data systems that afford appropriate levels of direct access for staff, students, parents and community for the purpose of self-service inquiry and involvement
    6. All LPS systems will be supported by online learning materials that can be used for self-directed study
    7. All instructional and professional development programs will be supported by learning systems and content that extend and enhance the learning experience of teachers, trainers and learners
