A short while ago, Heritage High School hosted what they call "MAD Week." MAD stands for Making A Difference. Last spring, HHS students raised funds to help children in war-torn Sierra Leone. They then sent an emissary to deliver the goods personally...

During MAD Week, the school hosted a visit from Ishmael Beah who wrote a book (A long way gone) about his personal experiences as a child soldier.  When Ishmael came to Heritage, he was greeted with a heroes welcome.  Part of the welcome was to present a video about the effort that the students had put forth.  The link below goes to the resulting podcast that is currently posted on Heritage's web site.  The power of hope is awesome and hope streams out to you as you watch this podcast.  Well done, everyone.  You make us so proud.

Re: Powerful Podcast

Thanks for posting this. Every time I watch it, it inpires me to "do more." And, of course, thanks to EVERYONE involved in MAD Week! It does, indeed, "take a whole village to raise a child."

Re: Powerful Podcast

I am the principal of Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, Floriday and our students are all reading A Long Way Gone together! Our teachers read aloud to the students every Tuesday and we have guided journaling as well. We are all enjoying this book and the power of doing it together is incredible. When I watch your podcast and see what you all did, I am just in awe! What a great group of students and teachers and what a great thing you all did! You are inspirational and I hope our school can pick up where you left off and continue the HOPE!!
