Ah, don't you just love how big business and government interact? Case and point: the new Daylight Savings Time and Microsoft Exchange. Houston, we have a problem...

In August of 2005, the Energy Policy Act changed the start and stop dates for daylight savings time (DST) in the U.S.  As a result, DST will begin on March 11th and conclude on November 4th of 2007.

Unfortunately, there is a problem with the Microsoft Exchange Calendar system related to this change.  ITS staff installed the necessary updates from Microsoft to address the DST date shift and we have discovered a bug in the update.

Appointments will be one hour late if:

  1. The appointments were made prior to December 10th, 2006 AND
  2. The appointments occur between March 11th and April 1st OR
  3. The appointments occur between October 28th and November 4th

To correct this problem, I recommend reviewing the dates listed above and manually changing erroneous appointments back one hour as soon as possible.  If you have too many appointments to move manually, please contact ITS for assistance with an automated system that can make this process somewhat easier.

Additionally, this problem affects people who use the Outlook Web Access system.  Even after you make the appropriate corrections in Outlook, the problem will persist in the Web Access unless you have applied the Hotfix number KB928388 from Microsoft to the computer you are using for the Web Access.  This will apply to any home computers or other non-LPS computers which LPS staff might use to check calendar appointments remotely.

To access information for Non-LPS computers on this issue, please see the Microsoft Help Center at http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst

For questions and concerns on this issue, please contact your Computer Coach or the ITS department.
