Thanks to everyone for joining me for lunch today to go over a few skills in Word and in Google Docs. Here is the video recording of our session. It looks like the DimDim web system froze up on the video. The audio of the session is fully recorded.
We have much more comprehensive material online at this link and I encourage you to check it out:

and here:

Thanks again everyone. I will continue to look to use web conferencing tools to extend the training and record the event for you. If we continue to have difficulty, I may use a different system next time...

Re: Lunch and Learn: Agendas and Minutes with Word and Google Docs
One question came up about getting converters... I said that I did not want to endorse a non-Microsoft product. But, I did find a download from Microsoft for conversion of DOCX files: www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en

Re: Lunch and Learn: Agendas and Minutes with Word and Google Docs
I didn't watch the whole thing (yet), so you may have mentioned this later. In case you didn't, Google Docs itself will allow you to import .docx and .xlsx (I don't think pptx yet), and then you can work on them or save them out as earlier .doc and .xls. And, of course, the newest version of Open Office will open those formats as well.
In the schools at least, we have their MS Office set to automatically save in the earlier Office 97-2003 format. The only time they might save in the .docs, .xlsx, and .pptx is if they choose to do a Save As and then choose the newer format. And we have the converter you linked to installed on our Special Services machines that have to use the older version of Office due to the software incompatibly with their system.
