Littleton Public School has had an amazing run of well-deserved recognition for our hard working, creative, thoughtful educators. In no particular order, Karl Fisch (AHS) was named, by ISTE, the 2009 Outstanding Leader of the Year, Steven Newell (Sandburg) was named The Apex Top Tech Teacher of the Year from Colorado’s Technology Association (along with finalist Chris Moore and Nicolette Vander Velde from East Elementary) and most recently, LPS had the great honor of have two educators awarded to the National School Board Association’s Twenty to Watch simultaneously. These two to watch are Anne Smith (AHS) and Chris Moore (East Elementary).

Indeed, we believe that we have a number of deserving educators who should be recognized for their work with their students. Using the forum of the 2009 Edublog Awards, The Information Technology Department humbly submits the following teachers for their work with Web 2.0 technologies in a meaningful manner:
Best New Blog: http://twainannouncements.blogspot.com. For their timely, entertaining morning announcements scripted and crafted by students, for students. (Liz Aucone, Twain Elementary)
Best Wiki: http://soar2newheights.wikispaces.com For showing us all what motivated fourth graders are capable of, and providing a safe place to do it. (Katie Heissnbuttel, Lenski Elementary)
Best Teacher Blog: http://learningandlaptops.blogspot.com/ for being a well written guide to the “how’s”, and more importantly, the “why’s” of technology integration in a Language Arts classroom. (Anne Smith, Arapahoe High School)
Best Student Blog: http://options.littletonpublicschools.com/TEACHERPAGES/ArtGianakos/DigitalArtPortfolioBlogs/tabid/7792/Default.aspx For pulling together the full scope of student creativity and craft into one place, a veritable online museum of student work. (Anna Gianakos, Options High School)
Best Educational Use of Video: http://hatakappodcast.blogspot.com/ For providing direct instruction prior to the class period. Students access the class notes before, during, and after the class period, allowing for more time in labs and discussions. (Brian Hatak, Arapahoe High School)
Most Influential Blog Post: http://www.littletonpublicschools.net/DISTRICTINFORMATION/GetInvolved/LPSBlogs/tabid/656/EntryId/309/Writing-with-laptops.aspx For bringing student voices into the discussion about the direction of technology in Littleton Public Schools. The students’ comments are a big part of the reason why LPS has implemented 1800 netbooks in Language Arts classes; these students influenced their world. (Dan Maas, IT Department)
Best Class Blog: http://eastdragonden.blogspot.com/ For pushing our and our students’ thinking about the importance of voice, ownership, and accountability in the classroom, online and offline. These teachers continue to look for opportunities when there are obstacles. (Chris Moore and Nicolette Vander Velde, East Elementary)
We know that there are many, many others who deserve consideration. Some of our teachers have chosen to make their web spaces private, and others have a shorter history with these technologies. We’ll revisit the latter folks in next year’s nominations. Please visit these online extensions of our classrooms and leave your constructive feedback. And, if you are so moved, please visit http://edublogawards.com/ to cast your vote, beginning on December 9th and wrapping up on the 16th. Winners will be announced on Friday, December 18th. Regardless of the outcome, these are great teachers doing great work for students!

Re: 2009 Edublog Awards Nominees from LPS
What, no Library blog to nominate?? Oh well, the list is impressive despite the gap in library/librarian representation.
