All community members are invited to attend. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to learn more about the calendar proposal, give feedback, and ask questions of LPS Board members and staff members. All feedback received will be a part of the Board’s ongoing conversations about the calendar proposal. The Board is scheduled to take action on a 2007-2008 calendar in early February, 2007.

At its November 8, 2006 Board meeting, the Board received more information about five calendar models on which it had previously narrowed its focus. In addition, the Board heard about a new Late Start Calendar Proposal that incorporates the need for more time for teachers to collaborate with the needs of parents to keep schedules and transportation the same.

The new proposal calls for 120 minutes of student activity time two mornings a month, during which time teachers participate in Professional Learning Communities. Transportation would remain the same on student activity days, and all activities would be optional and free of charge for participating students.
