Tony Hurt, Varsity Boys & Girls Soccer Coach at Heritage High School, has been selected as the 2006 Southwest Sectional Coach of the Year for Girls Soccer by the National Federation of State High School Coaches Association. The Southwest Section includes the states of Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. As a sectional winner, Coach Hurt is automatically a finalist for the national coach of the year honors.  Congratulations, Tony!

Patti Rains, family and consumer sciences teacher at Arapahoe High School, has b een selected as the Teacher of the Year for Colorado from the Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences.  Congratulations, Patti!

Nalisha Cotter, office manager and principal's secretary at Euclid Middle School, was presented with two free tickets on Frontier Airlines February 20 as part of the 2006 Frontier Airlines Fly-Away Contest.  Nalisha won the tickets through a drawing sponsored by Community Shares of Colorado during the LPS Combined Charities Campaign last fall.  Pictured:  EMS Principal Gary Hein, Nalisha Cotter, and Community Shares of Colorado CEO Jesse Wolff.

Littleton High School students in Future Business Leaders of America turned in impressive performances at the recent FBLA District 5 Conference. View results.

LPS middle schools did quite well in the recent Brain Bowl. In fact, all winning teams in this year’s competition were from LPS!

  • Goddard swept the overall competition, with a 6th grade team taking 1st place overall, a 7th grade team taking 2nd place overall, and an 8th grade team taking 3rd place overall.
  • A Euclid 7th grade team earned a 1st place finish,
  • A Powell 8th grade team earned a 1st place finish, and
  • Newton 6th graders won all of their oral rounds.


There were several 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes by LPS middle school teams, as well. Congratulations to these students and to their coaches. You make us proud!

Heritage High School senior Naomi Peterson has been selected as a candidate for the Presidential Scholarship program. Semifinalists will be chosen in April, and Scholars will be announced in early May. We are wishing Naomi the best in this process.

The Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International announced that LPS has received the meritorious Budget Award for its 2006-2007 annual budget. This award reflects the recipient’s commitment to meeting the highest standards of school budgeting.
