LPS Food Services brings back some beef items to lunch menus as investigation on product origins wraps up

(Posted February 22, 2008)  In response to the USDA's recall of beef products from Westland Beef, Littleton Public Schools stopped serving all beef products in its breakfast and lunch programs about three weeks ago.  Since that time, LPS Food Services has been investigating the origins of the beef used in the the district's program to make sure that no beef from Westland Beef or its processor Advance Foods that has been recalled by the USDA is being served in our schools.  Any recalled beef items are being destroyed.

The district has recently completed its investigation on crumbled beef, and none of the district's crumbled beef supply comes from either of these companies.  Crumbled beef items such as tacos will be brought back to school lunch menus beginning Monday, February 25, 2008.  All other beef products will remain off the menu until the district has completed the process of making sure that all recalled items from Westland Beef and Advance have been properly identified and destroyed.

Please contact LPS Food Services if you have questions or concerns, 303.347.3359.  Please know that all possible precautions have been taken to ensure that safe, high quality food is served through the LPS Food Services program.

LPS pulls all beef products from school food menus in response to national product hold

The USDA recently issued a "product hold" on ground beef from Westland Meat Company.  While LPS does not receive beef from Westland, the district is taking precautions by putting a quarantine on all beef products while it waits to hear if any of the meat processing manufacturers the district uses get beef from Westland Beef.

As a result, school menus may change. Please be patient with us as we work to ensure the highest quality food selections for the children we serve.
