Staff honored for state, national awards

At its regularly scheduled May 10, 2012 Board of Education meeting, 10 Littleton Public Schools’ staff members were honored for their accomplishments at the state and national levels during the 2011-2012 school year.

“We take great pride in the outstanding professionalism and dedication of our employees,” said LPS Superintendent Scott Murphy. “It is our honor to have all of you here with us tonight.”

Ray Barron, social studies teacher and varsity wrestling coach at Heritage High School, received the National Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award.
Dr. Charles Bottinelli, science teacher at Newton Middle School, was named Colorado Middle School Science Teacher of the Year.
Adam Buseck, varsity boys and varsity girls soccer coach at Heritage High School, was named the Boys State Soccer Coach of the Year.
Don Emmons, instrumental music teacher at Littleton High School, was nominated and selected for membership in the American School Band Directors Association.
Galen Graf, business and marketing teacher at Littleton High School, was named the Colorado DECA Teacher of the Year.
Dr. David Hilliard, principal at Twain Elementary School, was named the Administrator of the Year for Gifted and Talented Educators.
Kevin Keena, band teacher at Heritage High School, was recognized by the Boettcher Foundation Teacher Recognition Awards Program.
Kristin Kron, language arts teacher at Littleton High School, participated in the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program in Scotland.
Greg Sumlin, principal at East Elementary School, was named Recreational Coach of the Year for Colorado Youth Soccer.
Ray VanHeukelem, boys varsity basketball coach at Littleton High School, was inducted into the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Littleton Public Schools employees are known for their excellence. LPS teachers average 13 years of experience. About 73 percent hold a Masters Degree or higher.
