Littleton Public Schools offers many educational choices to resident and nonresident parents and students. State law allows nonresidents to enroll students in LPS or any other Colorado school without paying tuition when state and district guidelines are followed.
Open enrollment application may be submitted for the next school year beginning October 1 of each year. The open enrollment window for the 2013-2014 school year begins on October 1, 2012, and closes on January 31, 2013.
Resident requests for open enrollment will receive priority consideration over nonresident open enrollment requests from October 1 through January 31. After January 31, all applications—resident and nonresident—will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis when the following requirements are met:
- There must be room in the grade level the student will enter
- There must be a program in place in the new school that is appropriate for the enrolling student
- No district transportation will be provided unless there is room on an established route
- The student must be in good standing in his or her previous school
- Nonresident students must give annual notice for continued enrollment at the same school
- Nonresident students changing schools must reapply for open enrollment
What is the process for out of district open enrollment?
Step #1: Contact the school.
To open enroll your students, first contact the school(s) in which you would like to enroll. Complete an open enrollment application form and return it to the school(s) where you want to enroll your child, along with any other documentation requested by the individual school.
Open enrollment application forms are available in all LPS school offices, by calling 303-347-4360, or online: 2013-2014 Application for NonResident Open Enrollment
For school transfers during the current school year, use the 2012-2013 Application For Nonresident Open Enrollment form .
Step #2: Once accepted at the school level, register with the district.
Once the open enrollment application has been accepted at the school level, all students new to LPS must register either online or at the Education Services Center (ESC), 5776 S. Crocker St. Littleton, CO 80120, beginning February 1, 2013.
To begin the registration process online , create a Parent Portal account and follow the instructions for submitting the registration information electronically. Once the information is submitted, bring the required documents (see below) to the ESC to complete step one.
To register in person, come to the ESC between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily with the required documents (see below) and complete the registration paperwork.
After you have registered your student with the district, complete the enrollment process at the specific school to obtain class assignments, schedules, and other information unique to each child’s school.
Students do not need to re-register each year unless they leave the district for more than one school year.
