FAQ for Staff:
Is student and staff use of lpsk12.org allowed by policy?
Yes. Current Board policy allows for the use of all of these tools provided they are used by staff and students for educational purposes and that use follows Acceptable Use Guidelines outlined in policy.
How do students in my class gain access to lpsk12.org?
Accounts are made for all students grade 4-12. They can find their username and password by logging into Infinite Campus and looking for the Technology Tab.
How does this replace/compliment our other district services?
Lpsk12.org isn’t designed to be a replacement for existing tools or services. Your current email and network will still be available for your use. Instead, lpsk12.org is meant to provide additional services and features above and beyond our existing suite of district supported tools. By adding our own installation of Google Apps for Education, we can provide for centralized management and easy access to collaborative tools both inside and outside the district. Your lpsk12.org email account and your District Exchange (@lps.k12.co.us) email account are separate accounts. Your Outlook/Exchange email is still considered your official district email.
What training will be provided within the contract day to help me get up to speed on using lpsk12.org?
You can always learn more about lpsk12.org through the Google Apps Help Center. Tutorials are forthcoming, and will be posted on the General FAQ page. The LPS Instructional Technology team will support your implementation.
What mobile devices (iPhone, BlackBerry, etc.) can I use with lpsk12.org?
lpsk12.org works with most web-enabled mobile devices. For general instructions, click here. Note that our domain is lpsk12.org, not gmail, so make the appropriate changes.
Can I send e-mail between my current school account (@lps.k12.co.us) and my lpsk12.org account?
Yes, lpsk12.org can send and receive email outside of the domain. Please note that the typical Outlook settings will send lpsk12.org email to your spam folder, so you will need to add the domain to your “safe senders” list.

Will students and staff be provided within the “Contacts” listing already for us to share our documents?
There is not a global contact list (pre-populated address book) within lpsk12.org. Personal contact lists can be created by individual users within their account.
What is the policy for confidential student information sharing? Will staff be allowed by policy to email and share documents within FERPA guidelines?
All staff are expected to adhere to FERPA guidelines in their use of lpsk12.org just as they are with any other communication tools. Please see Information Security pamphlet for guidance.
In general, lpsk12.org is less secure than our district file servers so it is not a good place to keep sensitive information.
How does lpsk12.org work with Microsoft Office? Will Office still be supported? Will lpsk12.org become the preferred method of writing documents and spreadsheets?
Lpsk12.org allows for Microsoft Office documents, spreadsheets and presentations to be uploaded and downloaded. While not all fonts and formatting options are supported between the two, a majority of the functionality is available. Lpsk12.org is a preferred method for writing documents and spreadsheets when online collaboration is the goal. There are no plans to move exclusively to lpsk12.org; Microsoft Office will still be the primary tool for archiving and storing final documents.
Will students be able to use the chat function within lpsk12.org?
As per LPS filtering rules, chat functionality is not enabled.
Will I be able to access these tools outside of my classroom?
The tools are available anywhere that an internet browser and a connection can be found, so they are not limited to a classroom or computer lab setting. Do know that all email traffic in and out of lpsk12.org is filtered for inappropriate content.
What if I forget my password?
You may email the administrator (adminlpsk12@lpsk12.org) to have your password reset.
