The Constitution of Colorado assigns to locally elected boards control of instruction in the public schools. As charged by the Constitution, the general assembly has provided for the organization of school districts, including the composition of district boards and the election of school directors.
“Legally, then, local school boards are instruments of the state, and derive their power from the state constitution and acts of the general assembly. They also have responsibilities to the local citizenry they serve and by whom they are elected.”
There are five directors of the Board of Education of Littleton Public Schools.
Terms
The directors of the Board of Education shall hold office for a term of four years.
Number of Members
(The term “members” is synonymous with “directors.”) The Board of Education shall consist of five directors nominated and elected by the qualified voters of the District.
