Policy Code    BBFA

Policy Name    Board Member Conflicts of Interest

Adoption            July 2, 1984

Revised              September 18, 1984

It is the intent of this policy to protect the public trust placed in the directors of this District. Public office is not to be used for the profit, gain, or private interest of any individual. For purposes of this policy, situations which present a potential conflict of interest are those in which a Board of Education member will derive a private benefit that is both pecuniary and personal in nature from Board of Education action.

In order to avoid real or potential conflicts of interest:

The Board of Education will reimburse members for authorized expenses in carrying out Board duties as provided by law.

The Board of Education will not purchase supplies, equipment, or personal services from any member of the Board of Education or from a firm, business, or corporation in which a Board of Education member has a substantial interest unless such purchases are made on the basis of competitive bids or quotations solicited through public advertising.

To maintain public confidence and to prevent the use of public office for private gain, members of the Board shall disclose all potential conflicts of interest in writing to the Board of Education prior to the vote on any such transaction. The disclosure will be filed as a part of the official Board record.

A Board of Education member who discloses a potential conflict of interest may, but need not, abstain from voting on the matter disclosed. A Board of Education member not voting because of a disclosed conflict shall be exempt from C.R.S. 22-32-108(6).
