District Committees
Districtwide study committees leading to the development of curriculum, assessment, and instructional policies, or recommendations, shall consist of representatives who shall be appointed by the administration in accordance with the Curriculum Evaluation Process. Parent advisory groups may be convened to advise these committees.
Building Councils
Each building shall have an elected staff council, chaired by one of the elected representatives. The building principal will develop written procedures that spell out how the council representatives will be elected. In addition, the building principal, or his/her designee, will be in attendance at each council meeting. The council shall, in cooperation with the building principal, address issues pertaining to improvement of the building instructional programs, building procedures, rules, and regulations.
Each building council, if it so chooses, may submit written recommendations to the principal. Such recommendations shall not contradict district policy. After receiving recommendations, the principal will determine if the recommendation(s) will be implemented.
Middle and High School Building Leadership
Each of the middle and high schools in the District shall be given resources to reimburse staff members who perform building leadership functions. Each building will utilize its established collaborative decision-making process to develop leadership positions, stipends (within the limit established by the Division of Instruction administration for each building), position descriptions, and selection process.
Evaluation
Building leadership positions will be evaluated annually by the principal or assistant principal based upon criteria established at each site. A conference to evaluate leadership performance will be included as an addendum to the teacher performance appraisal.
Compensation
The total amount of compensation for each building shall be established by the Division of Instruction administration. Such compensation is for the additional time necessary to provide the leadership functions developed by each school.
District Curriculum Leadership
A District Curriculum Council may be formed for each curriculum area. This Council is to be composed of designees from each middle and high school and selected elementary representatives.
All Integrated Learning Center staff members will constitute the District Integrated Learning Center Council.
Each District Council shall select a chair for a period of one year. District Curriculum Council Chairpersons will receive additional compensation for this responsibility as determined by the Division of Instruction administration.
