The Board may sanction summer programs that provide opportunities for remedial and enrichment instruction in the school buildings upon the recommendation of the building principal and with the approval of the appropriate director of education.
All requests for such summer programs shall be submitted as a regular curricular proposal by March 15 to the appropriate director after it has been approved by the building principal.
The summer school curricular offerings will be established in line with the needs of the students, District priorities, and in accordance with regulations established by the Board. All summer programs will be subject to annual approval. All requests for such special program summer school offerings shall be submitted to the building principal by March 1 and are subject to the following guidelines:
Any District certificated staff member interested in using school facilities for instructional purposes may submit a proposal that would include the following information:
A complete outline of the proposed summer school offering, including the purpose of the program, length of program, frequency of sessions, hours, grade levels, subjects, number of children, and suggested cost to those students.
Textbooks may be provided by the District; however, commercial items, workbooks, and special materials such as art supplies will be a cost to the participant.
The teacher or teachers will be required to sign a building use agreement.
Communication with parents will be the responsibility of the person submitting the proposal. This communication will include information that the teacher(s) will be totally responsible for the effectiveness of the program. Information will be communicated to parents relative to student progress following the completion of the course work.
All proposals should provide at their conclusion an evaluation report that will be submitted to the principal of the school, the appropriate director of education, and to the Board.
Transportation will be the responsibility of the parents or guardians unless otherwise stated in the proposal.
