ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL
In elementary and middle school, the administrative staff is expected to place students at the grade level that is academically, socially, and emotionally appropriate. Licensed staff will provide timely communication to parents/guardian about each student’s progress toward grade level standards. Early and progressive intervention including Individualized Literacy Plans and/or Individual Education Plans, as necessary, will be provided for students who are consistently below grade level standards in one or more subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and/or social studies. Grade level standards will be measured by academic assessments of student learning, teacher and staff assessments and observations, and consultation with parents/guardian. Students will normally progress annually from grade to grade, but exceptions may be made when, in the judgment of the administrative staff, such exceptions are in the best educational interest of the students involved. Exceptions, including retention from grade advancement, may be made after appropriate intervention, explanation, and consultation with each student’s parents/guardian and teachers. The final promotion or retention decision will rest with the building principal.
HIGH SCHOOL
In high school, a student will be designated as a freshman during the first year in high school, as a sophomore during the second year, as a junior during the third year, and as a senior until completion of minimum requirements for graduation unless they are no longer eligible to attend high school. The licensed staff is expected to provide timely communication to parents/guardian about the status of each student related to progress toward graduation. Early and progressive intervention will be provided for students who are failing a class and parents/guardian will be informed. The licensed staff will monitor the number of credits earned by each student and communicate this information to students and parents/guardian. Exceptions shall be made after prior notification and explanation to each student’s parents/guardian, but the final decision will rest with the building principal.
