Policy Name    Energy Conservation

It is the responsibility of the Board of Education to ensure that every effort is made to conserve energy and natural resources while exercising sound financial management. Therefore, the Board of Education directs the Superintendent or his/her designee to develop strategies in energy awareness and conservation. Administrative guidelines will be developed to carry out the provisions of this policy.

The implementation of this policy is the collaborative responsibility of the administration, principals, teachers, students, and support personnel. Its success is based on cooperation at all levels.

Energy management districtwide will be the responsibility of the director of property management services or his designated energy manager. The energy manager will maintain accurate records of energy consumption and cost of energy and will provide information to the public on the goals and progress of the energy conservation program. The building principal will be accountable for energy management at his/her school. To ensure that an efficient energy posture is maintained on a daily basis, judicious use of the various energy systems of each building will be the joint responsibility of the principal and lead custodian.
