Public Employees’ Retirement Association

All classified employees are required by law to become a member of the Public Employees’ Retirement Association. The District and employee shall make the required contributions. PERA retirees who work for the District on temporary or special assignments are subject to PERA rules and regulations.

 

Medicare

As required by law, any employee hired after April 1986 is required to participate in the federal Medicare program. The District and employee will contribute required amounts toward coverage.

 

Workers’ Compensation

The District shall provide workers’ compensation coverage, which provides for medical benefits and a scheduled amount of wage loss benefits for any District employee who sustains an injury or illness while performing services within the course of their employment. All such benefits shall be payable according to Colorado Workers’ Compensation statutes.

 

Group Insurance Benefits

The District shall make available the following group insurance plans to introductory and regular classified employees working at least 20 hours per week. The District contributions toward such insurance shall be determined by the Board of Education.

       Medical Insurance

       Dental Insurance

       Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

       Dependent Life Insurance

       Vision Insurance

       Section 125 Plan, including Premium Only Plan, Healthcare and Dependent Care Spending Accounts

The group insurance contracts shall govern specific plan coverages, eligibility rules, and all other provisions of the insurance plans.

Employees may maintain all group insurance benefits at their own expense during an approved unpaid leave of absence except where prohibited by Colorado Statutes or the rules of a private insurance company. The District shall not contribute toward group insurance benefits during an employee’s unpaid leave of absence.

 

Tax-Deferred Savings Through Payroll Deductions

Employees may participate in PERA’s Voluntary Investment Plan (401k) and the District’s designated (403b) and/or 457 plans through payroll deduction following established District procedures. No other tax-deferred investment savings plans shall be available through District payroll deduction. The employee is solely responsible for their investment elections within these plans. Individual compliance with Internal Revenue Code rules and regulations rests with the employee.

 


Credit Union

Any employee may authorize a payroll deduction as savings in or a payment to the Arapahoe Credit Union.

 

Savings Bonds

Employees may purchase savings bonds through an optional payroll deduction plan.

 

District-Supported Charities

Employees may authorize contributions through payroll deduction to various charities established for such deduction authority by the District.

 

Mileage

Mileage allowance shall be paid to employees when it is necessary to use private vehicles in the performance of their duties; however, use of private vehicles and mileage reimbursement requests must be approved by the employee’s immediate supervisor prior to its use and reimbursement. Mileage reimbursements shall be at the federal reimbursement rate.
