The high schools of the District shall operate under an “open campus” system, thus placing responsibility for prudent and wise use of unscheduled time on students whether on or off campus. Students may and are encouraged to use unscheduled time for working on assignments from classes, seeking out teachers for additional help, meeting with counselors about course and career planning, and for other worthwhile endeavors. When unscheduled, teachers are generally available in their departmental offices. These offices, as well as staff supervised libraries, resource centers, science labs, computer rooms, and the cafeteria are open to students throughout the school day.
