Operation of School-Sponsored Clubs
School-sponsored clubs must comply with this policy and with operational procedures established by the principal.
District employee sponsors will be appointed by the principal and, if paid, shall be paid in accordance with building and District schedules.
District employee sponsors will participate in the supervision and direction of all activities of the club and shall attend all meetings.
Operation of Student Interest Groups
Student interest groups must comply with this policy and with operation procedures established by the principal.
Meetings on school premises will be voluntary and student-initiated.
Neither the District nor any of its employees or agents will promote, lead, or participate in meetings, except that an employee can be assigned for monitoring purposes. Employees present at a meeting including religious worship, prayer, or practice, or with a religious purpose may only attend in a nonparticipatory capacity.
A District employee monitor will attend all student interest group meetings to maintain order and to ensure that laws, policies, regulations, and procedures are being followed. Student interest groups must recruit a District employee to serve as monitor and assure the presence of a District employee monitor at all of its meetings. If any District employee feels that the content of the speech at a meeting is contrary to his/her beliefs, the District cannot compel that person to serve as a monitor.
Nonschool persons cannot conduct, control, or regularly attend activities of groups. Guest speakers may be invited to meetings, subject to the approval of the principal.
