The Board recognizes that the school system is a public institution which serves the educational needs of the community. Therefore, the Board strives to obtain broad and accurate coverage of District news, issues, programs, and events through promoting productive and professional relationships with media representatives.

In order that media coverage is coordinated into a common effort and purpose, these guidelines will be followed in giving official information to the news media:

The Board president will present the agreed upon position of the Board, except as this duty is delegated to another Board member or the Superintendent.

News releases that are of a districtwide nature or pertain to established District policy are the responsibility of the Superintendent or designee.

News releases that pertain to only one school, or to an organization of one school, are the responsibility of the school principal or designee. All news releases prepared by other staff members of the particular school must be cleared with the principal.

Releases pertaining to athletic programs will be the specific responsibility of the assistant principal of athletics, who will send a copy to the Department of School/Community Relations. However, coaches will report the results of games directly to newspapers.

All media representatives will be given equal access to information about the school system. There will be no exclusive releases except as media representatives request information regarding particular programs, plans, or problems.
