Policy Code KDA Policy Name Public Information Program Adoption July 2, 1984 Revised October 6, 1987 |
The Board recognizes that a climate of mutual understanding and cooperation among school officials, staff, parents, and community members is essential if the educational program is to best meet the needs of students and the expectations of the community. The Board believes an effective two-way communications program is vital to active and constructive participation of staff, parents, and community members in the District’s decision-making processes.
The Board believes that staff, parents, and community members are entitled to complete, accurate, and continuing information about District policies, goals, finances, programs, achievements, problems, and issues. To fulfill this commitment, the Public Information Program will use a variety of approaches including personal, print, and electronic media to communicate. Communication efforts will strive to:
Develop an understanding of all aspects of the District’s operation by ensuring access to public information concerning the schools.
Ascertain attitudes toward the District’s policies, programs and services, and issues facing public education.
Create and maintain an atmosphere that encourages and welcomes involvement in the educational process and resolution of problems.
Solicit advice on how best to achieve educational goals and foster understanding of the need for constructive change.
Promote a spirit of cooperation in enhancing community life through maintaining quality public schools.
The Board believes that school/community cooperation and communication begin with interactions among students, parents, and teachers, and extend to include all employees, members of the community, and other agencies. All staff members have the responsibility of serving as District representatives, and should keep themselves accurately informed and demonstrate professionalism in their communications.
