Policy Code KDB-R Policy Name Public’s Right of Inspection Adoption August 13, 1998 Revised |
A person who has the right to inspect a public record also has the right to be furnished a copy of the record upon request.
The fee for copying public records will not exceed $1.25 per page, unless actual costs exceed that amount. Fees for specific documents will be determined by the central administration, and will be adjusted as necessary.
In response to a specific request for records, the District is not obligated to reformat data to generate a record in a form not used by the District. If the District agrees to fulfill such a request, it may charge a reasonable fee not to exceed the actual cost of producing the record.
If a request for records requires computer output other than word processing, the District may charge a reasonable fee based on the actual costs of providing the electronic service and product, together with a reasonable portion of the costs associated with building and maintaining the information system. This fee may be reduced or waived by the Superintendent or designee if the electronic service or product is used for a public purpose.
If the custodian of public records receives a request to inspect a document submitted to the District by a citizen which meets the definition of public record and does not fall within any exemptions, the custodian will proceed, if possible, as follows:
The custodian will notify the applicant of a specific date and time at which the requested record will be made available for inspection.
At least one working day before that specific date and time, the custodian will notify the citizen who submitted the document of the scheduled inspection.
The custodian will also notify the staff or Board member who originally received the document of the scheduled inspection.
