Arapahoe High School Jazz I Selected to Perform at State Music Convention

Centennial, Colorado—The Arapahoe High School Jazz Ensemble I has been selected to perform a featured concert at the 2006 Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) Annual Clinic Conference, to be held at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs on January 21, 2006. Jazz I will present a special concert in the brand new Broadmoor Hotel’s International Center.

Public school bands, orchestras, and choirs are selected to perform at the CMEA Clinic Conference based upon audition recordings that are submitted to CMEA in the spring, and are evaluated by a panel of experienced teachers and musicians. Only one or two high school jazz bands are selected to perform at the Clinic Conference each year.

Arapahoe’s Jazz Ensemble I will perform at CMEA for the second time in the last three years. Performing groups may only perform every three years at the State Convention. They appeared in 2003, two years before receiving their Downbeat Best U.S. High School Big Band Jazz Award.  Students in grades nine through twelve are selected to Jazz I by audition. Many of the members of Jazz Ensemble I take private lessons and are very accomplished musicians.

Arapahoe Jazz staff includes:  Laura Jones, Saxophone; Missy Steinbock, Trumpet; Jeff Craig, Low Brass; Fred Bowlus, Percussion; and Jim Stahlhut, Rhythm and Improvisation. Dr. Ed Cannava is Arapahoe’s Director of Bands.
