Selected to Perform at State Music Convention

Littleton, Colorado – The Arapahoe High School Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform a featured concert at the 2005 Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) Annual Clinic Conference, to be held at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs January 27 to 29, 2005.  The Wind Ensemble will present a special concert in the Broadmoor Hotel’s International Center.

Public school bands, orchestras, and choirs are selected to perform at the CMEA Clinic Conference based upon audition recordings that are submitted to CMEA in the spring, and are evaluated by a panel of experienced teachers and musicians.  Only a select few high school concert bands are selected to perform at the Clinic Conference.

The Arapahoe Wind Ensemble will perform at CMEA for the third time in the past nine years.  Performing groups may only perform every three years at the State Convention. They appeared in 1996, two years before their concert appearance in Carnegie Hall.  Then in 2002 they were invited back to perform a second time at CMEA.  The Wind Ensemble is one of three concert bands at Arapahoe.  Students in grades nine through twelve are selected to the Wind Ensemble by audition.  Many of the members of Wind Ensemble take private lessons and are very accomplished musicians.

The Arapahoe Band will also be performing a concert in Carnegie Hall on March 20, 2005.  Arapahoe Band staff includes:  Debbie Young, Flute; Kathryn Cooper, Oboe; Debbie Torp, Bassoon; Heather Davis, Clarinet; Laura Jones, Saxophone; Missy Steinbock, Trumpet; Ron Torp, Horn; Jeff Craig, Low Brass, and Fred Bowlus, Percussion.  Dr. Ed Cannava is Arapahoe’s Director of Bands.
