ARAPAHOE WARRIOR MARCHING BAND PLACES FIRST
Littleton, Colorado -- The Arapahoe High School Warrior Marching Band, under the direction of Dr. Ed Cannava, placed first at the 2001 Pikes Peak March of Champions in Colorado Springs on September 25. First place awards were also achieved in the areas of Drum Major (a record-breaking 94 points) and percussion. The Warrior Band had the highest score of any band in all classifications at the contest.
Arapahoe’s Drum Majors are Shawn Funk and Mike Graziano. The instructional staff include: Fred Bowlus and Joe Vacarelli, Percussion; Katie Wilson, Annette Larkin, Colleen Condon and Pat Condon, Color Guard; Bruce Fox, Marching; Jenny Hatch, Flute; Heather Davis, Clarinet and Woodwinds; Laura Jones, Saxophone and Low Woodwinds; Missy Steinbock, Trumpet; Ron Torp, Mellophone; and Jeff Craig, Low Brass.
Section leaders include: Mary Micikas, Flute; Ryan Courtney, Clarinet; Chelsea Van Ryn, Alto Saxophone; Ben Griffis, Low Woodwinds; Matt Larson, Trumpet; Caitlin Kelly, Mellophone; Emily Jenkins, Low Brass; Matt Hiner, Battery Percussion; and Karin Strom, Pit Percussion.
