October 25, 2006 Contact: Dr. Ed Cannava 303-347-6031 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Centennial, Colorado—The First Annual Arapahoe High School Band Concerto Competition will be held in the Arapahoe Theater on November 8, 2006. Eight finalists will perform their concerto in front of a live audience and a Colorado Symphony Musician Panel consisting of: Andrew Stevens, Woodwinds; Patrick Tillery, Brass; and William Hill, Tympani. The finalists are: Sean Case (Senior Marimba player), Colton Crandell (Senior Trumpeter); Gabrielle Miller (Senior Clarinetist), David Steinberg (Senior Tympanist), Roxy Steinberg (Junior Flautist), Jamie Stippich (Senior Oboist), Matt Cullen (Junior Bassoonist), and Wes Leffingwell (Sophomore Pianist). The competition is being sponsored by Kolacny Music and the Arapahoe Band Boosters. The coordinator of the 2006 Concerto Competition is Mr. Terry Cassara, Past Vice President of the Arapahoe Band Boosters. He will be the host and master of ceremonies at the November 8th competition. Performances will begin at 7:00 p.m. and general admission tickets are $2.00. All eight finalists will receive a framed award certificate at the awards ceremony, which will be held at the end of the competition. The top three finalists will be awarded engraved medals and cash prizes. 1st place will be $75.00, 2nd is $50.00, and 3rd place will be awarded $25.00. The top seniors will also be invited to perform their concertos, later in the year, with the Arapahoe Wind Ensemble.
