AHS Dixie Dawgs to Perform at Evergreen Jazz FestivalLittleton, Colorado—The Arapahoe High School Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs have been selected to perform at “Jazz in the Rockies-The 2004 Evergreen Jazz Festival”, on Saturday, August 7. The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs will first perform at 12:15 p.m., at the Elk’s Lodge Ballroom. The band’s second performance will be in the Evergreen Christian Church at 1:45 p.m. Additional professional jazz bands performing at the festival include: James Dapogny’s Chicago Jazz Band; The Queen City Jazz Band with Wende Harston; Can Us (from Victoria, B.C.); Rain Dogs (from K.C.); Ed Stephen Quartet with Joni Janak; Gemoli (Long Beach, CA); L.A. Jazz Combo (Evergreen); Celebration Jazz Band (Ft. Collins); Carl Sonny Leyland Trio (Orange, CA); and Mr. David Booker and Band (Denver). Two additional festival days will take place on the 6th and 8th. Festival Badges run as low as $50 for the day. Members of the Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs include: Tricia Cannava (clarinet), Ben Link (tenor sax), Bobby Cassara, (trumpet), Jeff Henton (trombone), Tim Clarkson (banjo), Jessica Swift (piano), Matt Rasband (bass), and Sean Case (drums). The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs are sponsored by the Denver Jazz Club and directed by Dr. Ed Cannava, Arapahoe’s Director of Bands. UCD Professor and Queen City Jazz Band bass player, Bill Clark, clinics the band from time to time. The Dixie Dawgs won a prestigious 2003 Downbeat Outstanding Jazz Combo Performance Award.
