FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jordanian Tuba Student to Join the Arapahoe Warrior Band for their August
Camp
Centennial, Colorado-The
Arapahoe High School Warrior Marching Band and WASBE, The World Association
of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, have placed a Jordanian, 14-year old
tuba student, Hashem Al-Hadid, in the Warrior Marching Band Camp through
August 14th. This is the first time Arapahoe has participated
in this band foreign exchange student program. Hashem is from Amman,
Jordan, where he attends the Baptist School
there. He started in Beginning Band as a 5th grader. Hashem
has recently started learning percussion, as well. He is also the school’s
goal keeper on the soccer team. Hashem has performed in many cities
throughout Jordan, but has never before been to the United States.
He wanted to come to Arapahoe since he’s never been able to play in
a Marching Band. Hashem arrived on July 31st and will work
with the Arapahoe Band until August 14th. The Furry family
has graciously offered to host Hashem throughout his time in the U.S. Grant Furry is a freshman tuba/sousaphone player,
so he and Hashem can learn the “ins and outs” of marching band together.
The Arapahoe Band Boosters have offered Hashem a full
August Band Camp scholarship for his stay with the Arapahoe Band. They
also have provided him with a sousaphone and a practice tuba until his
departure on August 14th.
Dr. Ed Cannava is Arapahoe’s Director of Bands.
