Arapahoe Jazz Groups Rated Superior
Centennial, Colorado—Arapahoe’s top jazz band, Jazz I, and their traditional jazz combo, The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs, were awarded superior ratings at the Mile High Jazz Festival on March 9, 2007. Jazz II achieved a high excellent rating at the festival.
Dr. Ed Cannava directs the jazz bands and combo at Arapahoe. Mr. Brian Margrave, student teacher, directed Jazz II at the Mile High Jazz Festival. He also assisted with directing Jazz I. Arapahoe’s jazz instructional staff includes: Tait Solberg, Saxophone; Missy Steinbock, Trumpet; Jeff Craig, Trombone; Fred Bowlus, Percussion; and Jim Stahlhut, Jazz Rhythm and Improvisation.
The following students received Outstanding Musicianship Award Certificates: Josh Garties, Alto Sax; Paris Spinelli, Trumpet; Marshall Tugman, Bass; Matt Darling, Bari Sax; Justin Rodrigues, Drums; David Culp, Drums/Vibes; Jeff Henton, Tuba; Colton Crandell, Cornet; Wes Leffingwell, Piano (2 awards); Steve Berres, Tenor Sax; Will Gamache, Bass Trombone; Alex James, Trombone; Jeff Henton, Trombone; Dave Ellis, Trombone; Billy Norris, Trombone; Colton Crandell, Trumpet; Melanie Brown, Trumpet; and Sean Case, Drums.
