Arapahoe High School Musicians Recognized at 2006 Mile High Jazz Festival

 

Centennial, ColoradoArapahoe High School’s top jazz ensemble, “Retrospect” was recognized with two special section awards at the March 9th Mile High Jazz Festival. The Trumpet Section was one of only three trumpet sections honored with an Outstanding Performance Award, out of 83 total ensembles throughout the 3-day jazz festival. Retrospect’s Trumpet Section includes: Colton Crandell (junior), Todd Shaw (sophomore), Josh Vella (senior), Bobby Cassara (senior), and Peter Mitchell (senior). Missy Steinbock is the trumpet instructor at Arapahoe.

 

Retrospect’s Trombone Section was one of only six trombone sections recognized with an Outstanding Performance Award over the 3-day Mile High Jazz Festival. Musicians in the Trombone Section include: Jeff Henton (junior), Dave Ellis (sophomore), Billy Norris (sophomore), Will Gamache (junior), and Dan Wood (senior). Jeff Craig is Arapahoe’s trombone instructor.

 

The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs were also recognized with an Outstanding Performance Award. They were one of only four combos recognized at the 2006 Mile High Jazz Festival. Musicians include: Amy Rausch (clarinet), Steve Berres (tenor sax), Bobby Cassara, (trumpet), Jeff Henton (trombone), Todd Shaw (banjo), Wes Leffingwell (piano), Ryan Foley (bass), and Sean Case (drums).
