Letter from Superintendent Brian Ewert

January 13, 2016

Dear Littleton Public Schools Families:

As you may remember, in April 2015 the Littleton Public Schools Board of Education partnered with Michael and Desiree Davis to participate in a joint discovery process to better understand the events that led up to the shooting at Arapahoe High School on December 13, 2013 and the LPS response to those events.  The Davis’ daughter, Claire, was fatally shot by a fellow student who then took his own life.

The joint discovery process began in June 2015 and concluded in November 2015.  As LPS’ new superintendent, I asked several safety and mental health experts to examine our processes and procedures and to report their findings to our Board of Education. These reports, along with reports prepared for the Davis Family and other documents related to the discovery process, will be available to the public beginning Monday, January 18, 2016. We will share additional information with you at that time.

The LPS Board of Education will formally receive its experts’ findings and discuss their reports at a special Board of Education meeting January 21, 2016 at 4 p.m. at the Education Services Center.  The meeting is open to the public. We look forward to receiving and learning from these reports.

We expect that the release of these reports will generate considerable media attention and will be difficult for our community. LPS will continue to provide additional support to students and staff for as long as it is needed.

LPS employs the finest, most caring staff members, and all of us are proud to serve dedicated students and parents while being supported by a generous community.  I am so fortunate to be a member of the LPS family.  Together, we will continue to build upon the strong tradition of excellence that is Littleton Public Schools.

Warmest Regards,

Brian Ewert
Superintendent
