President Abraham Lincoln visited Newton Middle School on Wednesday. He spent about an hour with all of the 8th graders explaining his life and times. Afterwards, a small group of 8th graders were able to sit in on a Q&A with President Lincoln.

"I honestly could have listened to him talk for days. It seemed he knew everything there was to know about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. He taught me so much in the space of a few hours it was almost overwhelming." Maddie F

" When John came as Abraham Lincoln to educate us, I thought that it was very interesting.  Many people know some highlights about Lincoln's presidency, but not as much about his childhood or how he grew up.  Before the lecture, I never even knew that our 16th president had a passion for learning, reading, and writing.  I also gleaned from the map of 1861, that some communities in The South had little to no slaves while others had many slaves that totaled up to a staggering amount of seventy to ninety percent of the community's population.  I felt that his presentation was also very captivating and worthwhile to listen to.  I felt that the Question and Answer session afterwards was also really cool, because you could ask him questions about Lincoln that you had, and he would answer them.  The Question and Answer session really showed that he had a lot more information to share with you about Lincoln, rather than just memorizing a speech and wearing Lincoln's clothes.  I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in learning more about Abraham Lincoln!"
