EPIC’s Natural Resource’s Pathway Lead, Mike Montgomery, was featured in the latest issue of Chalkbeat. In the article, “This Colorado science teacher wants students to understand how food gets to the dinner table. Montgomery talks in the article about,” We are fortunate to have a hydroponics farm on the EPIC campus. Students, while learning the science behind plant growth, are involved with seeding, transplanting, and harvesting leafy greens for distribution to the cafeterias in the high schools for the creation of “EPIC” salads.

We also provide some produce to community food banks. The students take great pride in this work, knowing that they are providing for those in the community who might be facing food scarcity. The conversations we have in class have shifted beyond plant science to food production, distribution, and the need to reduce food waste. Talk about impactful lessons!” Read more of Monty’s interview in bio.

A smiling, middle-aged man with a reddish beard and a bald head is wearing a navy blue puffer vest over a white shirt. The vest has a logo on the left side that reads "EPIC CAMPUS" with a small circular graphic above it. A person wearing a white beekeeper suit with a mesh hood and orange gloves is standing outdoors and working on a beehive. The beehive is a stack of two boxes, one light blue and one turquoise, and there is a second, brightly painted beehive behind it. A small pyramid of glass jars filled with golden honey sits on a countertop. This honey was collected from the bee hives at EPIC Campus.
