One of the highlights of each Board of Education meeting is recognizing students who exemplify the Portrait of an LPS Graduate, LPS's vision for the knowledge, skills, and character we want every student to develop before graduation.

While Rigorous and Relevant Academic Skills provide the foundation, we know success in college, careers, and life depends on the ability to adapt, collaborate, communicate, and think critically in an ever-changing world. That’s why the Portrait emphasizes developing students who are Well-Adjusted, Thriving, and Balanced, while growing in:

  • Communication

  • Global and Cultural Awareness

  • Character

  • Critical Thinking

  • Problem Solving

  • Adaptability

  • Creativity

  • Risk-Taking

  • Resiliency

  • Collaboration and

  • Self-Advocacy

These aren’t skills students develop in a single classroom or a single year. They are cultivated through meaningful learning experiences, relationships, and opportunities from preschool through graduation, and we are proud to recognize students of all ages who demonstrate these qualities and remind us what it means to be an LPS graduate.

At the August 27 Board of Education meeting, students who played key roles in LPS's breakfast for new educators just before the start of school were recognized. These students attend Centennial Academy of Fine Arts Education and Littleton High School.

Centennial Academy
Osiris R. and Emma H. served as student hosts and emcees during the new educator breakfast on July 31. They warmly welcomed 80 new educators, principals, and district leaders to LPS to launch the 2026–2027 school year. Emma and Osiris worked together back in the spring to co-author their funny, heart-warming performance. They showed collaboration by understanding each other’s strengths and creating a welcome message that elicited laughter and left a lasting impression. Although not expected, over the summer they spent hours memorizing their script for the event. They each showed strong communication by connecting with the audience and commanding the stage. Thank you, Emma and Osiris for reminding us that students are at the center of all we do and for welcoming our new educators in such a meaningful way!

Littleton High School
Maddie K. was the featured student speaker for new educator breakfast on July 31. Maddie wrote an original speech that demonstrated exactly why she’s a pivotal member of Littleton High School’s speech and debate team. Maddie spoke from the heart, sharing anecdotes about her journey to LPS; an important teacher in her life, Mrs. Ockner; and her experiences as a part of LPS SPEAK, a student-led group promoting mental health in LPS. Her speech exemplified self-advocacy as she spoke her truth about championing mental health for all students. Maddie is both knowledgeable and endearing, and audience feedback reflected how Maddie’s words made them proud to choose LPS for the way we embrace mental health and the whole child. Maddie showed incredible creativity with her authentic message that moved some to tears. Thank you, Maddie. Your efforts demonstrated that preparedness and passion have a profound impact on those who are lucky enough to hear you speak.
