The spirit of community was on full display last Thursday, September 18, as the LPS Foundation sponsored the first-ever Senior Volunteer Program Tailgate Party before the Heritage High School football game, played at the LPS Stadium. The event was planned and hosted by the volunteer office, headed by Melissa Lotz, LPS's Volunteer Program and Onboarding Coordinator. The goal of the event was to bring generations together, building connections across the district and showing students that everyone is welcome in Littleton Public Schools with senior citizens cheering them on from the sidelines.

The event was a wonderful success, with 24 seniors in attendance and meaningful connections formed between volunteers, staff, and district leadership. Long-time volunteer Betty Thompson shared her appreciation, saying:

“Thank you for planning and putting on the tailgate party on September 18 at the [LPS] Stadium. I have been volunteering with the Littleton Schools for 20-some years, and I think this is a first: to have a tailgate party before a football game. It was nice to talk to a fellow volunteer who also is with the “I Love to Read” program at Hopkins School. I also enjoyed visiting with a Foundation member, and of course, the superintendent of schools himself, Dr. Todd Lambert.”

If you are inspired to be part of this amazing group that gives back to our schools, now is the perfect time to join! The Senior Volunteer Program currently has 20 spots open! To learn more, please contact Melissa Lotz.
