The Student Spotlight segment of each Board meeting celebrates a student or a group of students who are living out the Portrait of an LPS Graduate, which highlights the life skills each LPS graduate should have. Tomorrow’s workers will succeed by constantly adapting to the changing world around them, and today’s students must begin by learning and developing life skills - where every student should be well-adjusted, thriving, and balanced.
Additionally, students will develop skills in:
Communication
Global and Cultural Awareness
Character and Critical Thinking
Problem Solving and Adaptability
Creativity and Risk Taking
Resiliency and Collaboration
Self Advocacy
All surrounding Rigorous and Relevant Academic Skills
In LPS, we strive to implement opportunities to grow these skills at every level of education, and we recognize students of all ages.
At the regularly scheduled meeting on September 25, the Board of Education recognized students from Gaskill and Hopkins elementary schools.
Gaskill Elementary School
Maddox Howard demonstrates every day what it means to be an LPS learner. He exemplifies PROBLEM-SOLVING, working through problems in creative ways and coming up with new solutions, even when things aren’t simple or straightforward. Maddox recently decided to join Mathletes, even though he was unsure at first. With some encouragement from his parents and friends, he recognized it as a great opportunity to TAKE A RISK, try something new, and show flexibility in his thinking. In the classroom, Maddox is a quiet leader who actively participates in his own learning and inspires others with his curiosity, effort, and never-give-up attitude. He is also a positive role model for his kindergarten buddy, showing kindness and responsibility as they work together. Maddox truly exemplifies the Portrait of an LPS Graduate.
Henry Eisenbaum balances the demands of being on a traveling hockey team while keeping up with schoolwork, demonstrating his ADAPTABILITY, responsibility, and perseverance. He also showcases skills in COLLABORATION. In class discussions, he shares his ideas, listens to others, and helps the class work together successfully. Henry also shows us the importance of sharing thoughts and ideas through speaking and writing, while actively listening to the perspectives of others. He COMMUNICATES with confidence, respect, and curiosity, making his classroom community stronger. The way Henry balances hockey, academics, and contributes to the school community is truly impressive. He is a role model of dedication, collaboration, and leadership.
Abby Caston tackles challenges thoughtfully, explores different strategies, and stays flexible and open to change, demonstrating her PROBLEM-SOLVING skills and ADAPTABILITY. Abby is patient and inclusive of all classmates, shares ideas, listens carefully, and provides quiet, strong leadership. She is a talented and CREATIVE writer, crafting stories full of imaginative creatures, exciting adventures, and vivid ideas that inspire others to imagine, dream, and explore new possibilities. Abby COMMUNICATES clearly, always contributing ideas that help others learn. She perseveres through challenges, learns from mistakes, and cares for her own well-being and the well-being of others, practicing self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and building positive relationships—all while maintaining a positive attitude.
