It was a showdown of stories, strategy, and serious reading power as elementary students from across the district faced off in this year’s Battle of the Books, and the excitement did not disappoint.
Teams leaned in, whispering rapid-fire answers, buzzing with confidence, and erupting into cheers when they nailed even the toughest questions. Months of reading, preparation, and teamwork all came together in one unforgettable event.
Students competed in a fast-paced quiz format, answering detailed trivia questions written by LPS middle schoolers about a diverse list of 12 books they all read. But this wasn’t just about knowing the stories; it was about collaboration, quick thinking, and staying cool under pressure.
The event saw participation by teams from 12 LPS elementary schools, and each team brought their own energy, with supportive teammates and plenty of school pride on display.
After an intense competition, the top teams emerged:
First Place - Gaskill Elementary School
Second Place - Littleton Preparatory
Third Place - Hopkins Elementary School
While only three teams took home top honors, every student who participated walked away a winner, having strengthened their reading skills, built friendships, and experienced the thrill of academic competition.
Events like Battle of the Books showcase what happens when literacy meets excitement.
A special thanks goes to Allie Slocum, GT Facilitator at Ford Elementary School, whose leadership and dedication made this year’s event such a success. We also extend gratitude to the Ford Elementary staff and student ambassadors who volunteered their time to ensure the event ran smoothly, as well as all our GT Facilitators and Battle of the Books coaches from each participating school. Their commitment to preparing students and fostering a love of reading is what makes events like this possible and so impactful.
