This November, voters within Littleton Public Schools (LPS) will consider a $10 million mill levy override (MLO). The LPS Board of Education voted on August 13, 2026, to place the measure on the ballot.
Entering the 2026–2027 school year with a $10.6 million budget gap, the district has identified state-level revenue constraints, changes in Colorado's school funding formula, declining enrollment as part of a nationwide trend, and rising operational costs as factors contributing to the gap.
The 2026–2027 budget was balanced through measures that include central office staffing and operational reductions, departmental restructuring, an employee wage freeze, and a scheduled districtwide furlough day.
As Election Day approaches, LPS is committed to providing residents with factual information about the measure, including what it would fund, an estimated property tax impact, and the district’s current financial situation.
What is the Mill Levy Override?
A mill levy override is a voter-approved local property tax that provides additional operating revenue to a school district.
If approved by voters, the proposed $10 million MLO would provide ongoing local funding for three areas identified by the Board:
Attracting and retaining outstanding teachers to continue exceptional learning and care for every student;
Sustaining academic excellence and expanding career readiness through innovative programming; and
Maintaining safe, secure schools where all students can thrive.
What is the Estimated Tax Impact?
For a residential property with an actual value of $100,000, the estimated tax impact of the MLO would be approximately $25 per year, or just over $2 per month.
The average single-family home in Littleton has an actual value of around $600,000, so the tax impact would be approximately $150 per year, or about $13 per month.
Attend a Dollars and Sense Community Forum
Superintendent Todd Lambert will host a series of Dollars and Sense Community Forums to provide information about the MLO and answer questions from community members.
Meetings are being offered at seven different locations, on a variety of days and times to provide multiple opportunities for residents to attend. All community members are welcome; no registration is required. Spanish interpretation will be provided at each of these; if you need other interpretation, please submit the LPS Parent and/or Community Member Language Interpretation Request Form.
