One of the highlights of each Board of Education meeting is recognizing students who exemplify the Portrait of an LPS Graduate, LPS's vision for the knowledge, skills, and character we want every student to develop before graduation.

While Rigorous and Relevant Academic Skills provide the foundation, we know success in college, careers, and life depends on the ability to adapt, collaborate, communicate, and think critically in an ever-changing world. That’s why the Portrait emphasizes developing students who are Well-Adjusted, Thriving, and Balanced, while growing in:

  • Communication

  • Global and Cultural Awareness

  • Character

  • Critical Thinking

  • Problem Solving

  • Adaptability

  • Creativity

  • Risk-Taking

  • Resiliency

  • Collaboration

  • Self-Advocacy

These aren’t skills students develop in a single classroom or a single year. They are cultivated through meaningful learning experiences, relationships, and opportunities from preschool through graduation, and we are proud to recognize students of all ages who demonstrate these qualities and remind us what it means to be an LPS graduate.

At the October 8 meeting, the Board of Education recognized students from Hopkins Elementary School.

Aria C. is a wonderful student who exemplifies the Portrait of a Graduate skills of resiliency and character. She works hard and pushes herself even when school is challenging. She has the tools to ask for help when she needs it through self-advocacy, connecting with both her teacher and her classmates through collaboration. Aria shows confidence and bravery when trying new things, demonstrating risk-taking. She never gives up and always maintains a positive attitude. Her teacher said, “I absolutely adore having her in my class.”

Lucas G. has worked hard over the past few years to practice problem solving, communicate ways that others can support him through self-advocacy, and persevere through any challenge in his path. He puts his best foot forward and demonstrates incredible resiliency in all he does. We are proud of all the ways Lucas models “FROGS behavior” in class, at lunch, with younger students, and during recess. Lucas sets a great example for his peers at Hopkins! Way to go, Lucas!

Elsie T. is an exemplary student and an outstanding leader. She is anchored by a foundation of character, demonstrating genuine curiosity and deep respect for her school community. She excels at building belonging, demonstrating global and cultural awareness by inviting peers to join in on the playground and offering help without hesitation. She exhibits collaboration by thoughtfully creating avenues for a classmate who speaks limited English to fully participate in group activities. Elsie leads with authentic self-advocacy, confidently guiding her own learning while encouraging others to do the same, and she is an asset at Hopkins!

Wyatt W. is always leading with kindness and a big smile. He is a true light in Hopkins’ fifth grade classrooms. He stands out not only for his character and respectful attitude, but also for his focus and dedication during every lesson and assignment. Whether he is actively participating in discussions through communication or lending a helping hand to a classmate through collaboration, Wyatt brings warmth, positivity, and exceptional effort to everything he does. His overall character shines through, and Wyatt truly exemplifies the Portrait of an LPS Graduate!

Cade B. consistently demonstrates what it means to be a strong learner and caring member of his school community. He demonstrates self-advocacy, communicates his ideas thoughtfully, and shows resiliency when faced with challenges. He is an effective collaborator with his peers, solves problems through creativity, and is willing to take risks and try new things. He employs critical thinking in his work, and shows kindness, respect, and global and cultural awareness. His character, creativity, and determination will serve him well as he grows and continues to make a positive impact on those around him.
