In our quest to chip away at greatness, EPIC staff focused on what great teams do. We examined the Chicago Bulls basketball dynasty of the 1990s. Greatness requires a team. Check out our discussion questions as we learn about what we can do to grow our EPIC team using each staff member’s gifts to grow all of EPIC.

EPIC staff in our quest to chip away at greatness spent time examining what our road to being EPIC has looked like. EPIC staff heard from veteran educators Mike Montgomery and Chad Sawyer on the challenge of moving from planning to implementation. Then staff shared what it was like to carry the banner forward. Staff spent time examining EPIC’s vision, purpose and value statements with the question in mind, “Are we doing what we said we would do?”
EPIC Staff focused this week's professional learning around Jon Gordon's article "Building Greatness". Gordon discusses the challenge of becoming a craftsman or craftswoman - the work is more than just showing up; it requires consistency. Gordon also goes on to say, "When you are a craftsman in a world of carpenters, people will clamor for your product or service and your craftsmanship. And here's the great news. We can all be a craftsman or craftswoman. It doesn't happen right away. There's no such thing as an overnight success. You will have to try new things, fail, learn, improve and grow. You'll face countless challenges and tons of rejection that make you doubt yourself and cause you to want to quit. But if you see yourself as an artist dedicated to your craft with a desire to get better and you show up each day and put your heart and soul into your work you'll get there and the world will be better for it." At EPIC, we are working hard at growing our craft. We are chipping away at greatness individually by growing as instructors. Each instructor committed to one area of improvement that would lead to improving a student experience.
