Rovers and BattleBots!
Students in the Aerospace Design Robotics Capstone class competed in two different competitions, taking home awards in both! Two teams competed in an autonomous rover challenge with Colorado Space Grant Consortium at the Great Sand Dunes National Park where students designed, built, and tested their robots from scratch to autonomously navigate the sandy, rocky, difficult terrain of the Great Sand Dunes National Park. After a difficult time getting either bot to move the sand, the two teams combined the best of their bots to make one that was able to work, taking home the Mars Opportunity award!
-Autonomous rovers designed for rugged, Mars-like environments
-Real-time sensor integration for obstacle detection and mapping
-Self-navigating control systems built for unpredictable sand terrain
In a head-to-head competition three teams competed in the National Robotics League Colorado against other 15 lb battle bots that aimed to create absolute destruction with our teams winning Best Engineered and Crowd Favorite.
-15lb combat robots in 1v1 double-elimination brackets
-Custom drive trains and weapon systems for high-impact destruction
-Precision RF-controlled agility built for extreme combat maneuvers

“Bryce is hard working, coachable, intelligent, and hungry for knowledge and experience. He’s been an amazing intern for our team and department” - Connor Christian, South Metro Fire Rescue
“Iratzey is very helpful, works hard, and comes to work with a positive attitude” - Nikki Wiberg, RN, Christian Living Communities

EPIC Teacher Cadets attended the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to learn about other educational professions. They interacted with a diverse group of professionals that work at the museum. Students heard valuable advice:
Avoid the curse of knowledge- thinking you already know everything
Be curious
Be a good person
Be the values you hold
Be someone people want to work with
Be someone who you needed to see - so important!
Be curious about others’ stories
Fail= first attempt in learning
Show up
Apologize
Education is the foundation of every job
